The first batch of absentee ballot returns for the San Diego Mayoral Election are in, and they provide this snapshot of the voters who have turned in their ballots thus far:
:: Only 13% of the voters with mail-in ballots have returned their ballots as of January 18th.
:: 39% of voters designated by PDI as “early absentees” have already cast their ballots.
:: 83% of the votes cast so far are from those in our 13SDG3 Likely Voter universe.
:: Highest Council District turnout of by-mail voters has come from the 7th (19%) and lowest has come from the 8th (9%).
:: Latinos are 16% of all by-mail voters, but in turnout they represent only 9% of ballots cast so far.
:: Current partisan makeup is 44% DEMPLUS*, 44% REPPLUS, and 12% OTHER. Compared to registration of by-mail voters, DEMPLUS is underperforming by 2-points and REPPLUS is overperforming by 12-points.

* DEMPLUS includes all Democrats, plus voters who pull a Dem ballot, used to be Dem or have donated to Dem candidates. REPPLUS is the same thing, but for Republicans.
